As winter is fast approaching, we all want to look good and keep in with the latest trends. 2009 is no exception to the rule when it comes to new collections, styles and colours. Although winter is a time to wrap up it can still be done with elegance and chic and the odd splash of colour can liven up even the darkest of winter warmers.

When it comes to knitwear, over sized cardigans and jumper dresses are hitting the high street. Tights are the perfect accessory with so many patterns making an appearance and in just about every colour you can imagine. Italian style crochets scarves and knitted baker boy hats are all the rage with mitts or gloves to finish the look.

Footwear is dominated by the ankle boot with suede in particular making a comeback. Ankle boots can be worn either with a skirt or trouser and are the perfect choice to either dress up or dress down. High rise boots are also in and can be worn over a pair of skinny jeans or leggings.

Again jackets and coats are all over sized with trench coats being the favoured trend amongst the leading celebrities. Bright coloured jackets such as red and yellow are the perfect winter choice with chunky cardigans either to hip length or knee length for those milder days. These can be worn over slimmer bottoms and because they have such a bold shape they allow you to carry off bolder pieces of jewellery such as statement necklaces, layers of necklaces and big cuff bracelets.
